Before you start

What you need

  • A MyTravelBuddy account with at least one trip you can access.
  • ChatGPT on the web or desktop with support for custom apps.
  • A ChatGPT plan that includes custom MCP apps.
  • No MyTravelBuddy Client ID is needed — ChatGPT registers automatically through OAuth.

Setup guide

Connect in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Create the MyTravelBuddy app

    Add MyTravelBuddy as a custom app in ChatGPT using the remote MCP server URL.

    • Open ChatGPT Settings → Apps and enable Advanced settings if prompted.
    • Choose Create app, name it MyTravelBuddy, and select Server URL.
    • Enter https://mcp.mytravelbuddy.ai, choose OAuth, acknowledge the connector notice, and create the app.
  2. 02

    Sign in and approve access

    ChatGPT will open MyTravelBuddy so you can decide what the connector may do.

    • Click Sign in with MyTravelBuddy when the connection dialog appears.
    • Sign in, review the requested trip permissions, and approve the connection.
    • Return to ChatGPT and confirm MyTravelBuddy appears as connected.
  3. 03

    Research, choose, and hand off

    Use specialist apps for discovery, then ask MyTravelBuddy to keep the selected result with your trip.

    • Start a chat and enable MyTravelBuddy plus any other app you want to use.
    • For example, ask Expedia to find flights, compare the options, and choose the one that fits.
    • Ask MyTravelBuddy to add the chosen flight to your trip itinerary. Review write approvals before accepting them.

Troubleshooting

Common questions

ChatGPT does not show Create app

Custom apps may require a paid plan, workspace permission, or Advanced settings. Check your ChatGPT plan and workspace controls.

ChatGPT does not use MyTravelBuddy

Enable MyTravelBuddy for the conversation and name it explicitly in your prompt. If another app did the research, state which result you want your buddy to save.

A trip tool says access is denied

OAuth permission does not override trip membership. Confirm the signed-in MyTravelBuddy account can access and edit that trip.
